Imprecise research threatens precision medicine

The right treatment for the right patient at the right time. That’s the mantra of what’s being called precision medicine. To date, though, imprecision medicine might be a better moniker. Precision medicine aims to be a transformative paradigm that moves away from the “one-size-fits-all” approach in which treatments work for some people but not others. To the average American, especially one who has cancer, precision medicine sets a high expectation of a more targeted, and so more effective, treatment. read more

Biomarkers analysis and gene expression

For a decade we’ve been talking about the potential of molecular biology to increase our understanding of disease mechanisms. Biomarkers research supports a multitude of clinical approaches like molecular diagnostics, micro-array technologies, protein expression quantification and thus, can include all diagnostic ‘-omics’ layers, or any other objective phenotypic measures of a person’s health status. Drugdesigntech uses advanced bioinformatics methods to identify molecular biomarkers signatures and to suggest the mechanism of a disease or to monitor health status and therapy success. read more

What is open science?

Scientific progress relies on the sharing of both scientific ideas and scientific methodology – “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants”  The natural sciences advance not just when a researcher observes or understands a phenomenon, but also when we develop (and share) a new experimental technique (such as microscopy), a mathematical approach (e.g. calculus), or a new computational framework (such as multi scale modeling of chemical systems). This is most concretely illustrated by the practice of citation – when publishing, we cite the previous ideas we’re building on, the published methods we’re using, and the publicly available materials we relied upon. Science advances because of this sharing of ideas, and scientists are recognized for sharing ideas through citation and reputation. read more

Data management services and analysis

Bioinformatics is the computer-assisted data management discipline that helps in gathering, storing, and analyzing existing data in order to better understand processes in the healthy and disease states and speed up and enhance biological researches.Drugdesigntech offers a suite of services in order to facilitate such efforts. read more
